Walk and Talk Therapy: A Different Way to Do Therapy

Not everyone feels comfortable sitting in a traditional therapy room. For some, talking while walking side by side outdoors, feeling the steady rhythm of movement and the grounding presence of nature, can make it easier to open up and explore what’s going on.

Walk and Talk Therapy offers a calm, spacious approach that supports both your emotional and physical wellbeing in a natural setting.

How It Works

Walk and Talk sessions are held fortnightly on Saturday mornings, with just three client spaces available.

Each session lasts 60 minutes and costs £70.

This includes time to walk, pause, reflect, and talk at a pace that feels right for you.

I’ll provide a selection of carefully risk-assessed walking routes focused on your safety and privacy. You can choose the route that suits you best, and we’ll discuss any accessibility needs beforehand.

Important Assessment and Safety Steps

Before starting Walk and Talk Therapy, a face-to-face session in my therapy room is required. This initial meeting is essential to establish trust and connection in a safe, private space for both your safety and mine.

During this, we’ll complete a more detailed assessment than usual, which is necessary for insurance purposes and to ensure the outdoor setting suits your needs.

We’ll cover:

  • Any physical health or mobility considerations
  • Your comfort level being outdoors
  • How to handle the possibility of being seen or overheard
  • Plans for managing different weather conditions
  • Emergency procedures

This thorough preparation helps create a safe, supportive space tailored to you.

Why Choose Walk and Talk?

Walking side by side can reduce the pressure of face-to-face contact, helping you feel more relaxed and less self-conscious. The gentle movement supports emotional flow and can calm a busy or overwhelmed mind.

Walk and Talk might be a good fit if you:

  • Find sitting still or face-to-face therapy feels too intense
  • Prefer speaking while moving
  • Enjoy being outdoors and want a holistic approach
  • Are seeking a gentle way to manage stress, anxiety, or overwhelm
  • Want to explore your thoughts and feelings in a natural setting

A Few Things to Know

Limited Availability: Sessions take place every other Saturday morning with only three slots available.

Safety First: All routes are risk assessed, and your comfort and safety are priorities throughout.

Confidentiality: Outdoor sessions take place in public spaces, so there’s a chance of being overheard or seen. We’ll discuss how to navigate this together.

Weather Plans: If conditions aren’t suitable for walking, we can switch to an online session or reschedule.

Suitability: Walk and Talk suits many people but may not be ideal for those with intense trauma or mobility challenges. We’ll decide together what’s best for you during assessment.
