Somatic Therapy - Healing Through the Body

What Is Somatic Therapy?

“Somatic” simply means “related to the body.” Somatic therapy recognises that our bodies hold memories and emotions—especially when we’ve experienced stress or trauma.

Instead of focusing only on thoughts or words, somatic therapy helps you become aware of:

  • How your body feels in different moments
  • Where you might be holding tension, tightness, or discomfort
  • Physical sensations connected to emotions like fear, sadness, or anger

By tuning into your body, you learn to listen to what it’s telling you, and gently guide it back to a place of balance and ease.

Benefits of Somatic Therapy

Working with your body can have powerful effects on your emotional and mental wellbeing, including:

  • Reduced anxiety and stress
  • Feeling more grounded and present in your daily life
  • Greater awareness of your body and emotions
  • Relief from physical tension, pain, or discomfort linked to stress
  • Improved ability to manage overwhelming feelings
  • Healing from trauma without needing to relive painful memories
  • Feeling safer and more connected to yourself

What Happens in a Somatic Therapy Session?

Sometimes, when we’re struggling emotionally, it’s not just our mind that needs attention—it’s our body too. Somatic therapy is a gentle way of working that helps you connect with the sensations and feelings held in your body, so you can release tension, find calm, and heal from past experiences.

You won’t be pushed to do anything you’re not ready for. The pace is always yours.

If you’re curious about somatic therapy or wondering if it might be right for you, I’m happy to talk it through and answer any questions.

Every session is different and shaped by what feels right for you. Here are some things you might expect:
